Height and Outreach
Do you need to reach a height straight up or up and over?
• If you need to reach a height straight up then normally a scissor lift
is the best option
• Always check the working envelope diagrams for outreach calculations
before selecting the correct machine
• When choosing booms remember that as you use more outreach your
working height will diminish
• For continuous or strenuous tasks it may be better to select a machine
with a working height based on operator hip height

Safe Working Loads
Do you know how much weight you will be lifting?
• The machine is designed to lift personnel rather than act as a crane
• Machines can be fitted with a range of accessories to enable the lifting of additional
materials such as pipes and boards. Always be aware of the wind impact when lifting
sheet materials if working outside
• Always recognise the fact that machines have safety features that prevent use if overloads
are attempted
• The average weight of any person is 90kg always add personnel weight, protective
clothing, tools and materials when calculating the safe working loads of any
machine selection

Operators
Who is operating the machine and are they properly trained?
• It is the employers duty to ensure that the operator has received the correct training
and is able to operate the machine whilst working at height
